Deprivation of Liberty (DoLs) application and authorisation process §

The third in a series of three webinars on Unlocking Best Practices: Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and the Mental Capacity Act (MCA).
This session was an interactive workshop, with a number of experts to help explore:
- the DoLS application and authorisation process,
- the role of advocacy,
- a triage tool produced by the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) aiming to help address the struggle local authorities have to process the number of DoLS applications they receive.
Our panellists give insights from their area of expertise but most of the session was devoted to Q&A from attendees.

Integrated workforce planning: Learning from early adopters of the new health and social care workforce plans§
15 November 2024, 11-12.30pm
In this insightful session, we heard from early adopters following the launches of both the Comprehensive Workforce Plan for the NHS and the Social Care (SfC) Workforce Plan.
This event brought together key stakeholders from across the NHS and Adult Social Care sector to discuss how workforce integration is advancing in our health and social care systems.
With the focus on retaining existing talent and maximising the impact of these workforce plans, our speakers and expert panel shared best practice strategies being implemented to create a sustainable workforce.

Exploring ways of preventing a deprivation of liberty (DoL)§

The second in a series of three webinars on Unlocking Best Practices: Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and the Mental Capacity Act (MCA).
This session was an interactive workshop, with a number of experts to help explore:
- how the Mental Capacity Act can support care practice that can help to prevent a deprivation of liberty occurring,
- identifying where a DoL is necessary because of the person’s care and support needs,
- how care and support providers consider their own practice and ways to avoid / reduce an unnecessary DoL.
Our panellists brought a few minutes of insights from their area of expertise but most of the session was devoted to Q&A from attendees.

Overview: Liberty Protection Safeguards & Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards§

The first in a series of three webinars on Unlocking Best Practices: Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and the Mental Capacity Act (MCA).
Covering an overview of Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) and DoLS, this was an introductory and scene setting session with time for Q&As.
This webinar looked at:
- current legislation including the Government’s indefinite postponement to the implementation of the Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) in 2023,
- the latest good practice about DoLS and their safeguards,
- ways of preventing deprivations of liberty where they may not be necessary.

NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC): Nuffield Trust research and how to get involved§

NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) is something that is often poorly understood and not given the visibility it deserves. We know that the current system can cause challenges for care providers and individuals and their families, which is why the Nuffield Trust is undertaking in-depth work to explore variation and inequalities in particular in more detail.
This Learning Summit looked at:
- What has been happening to CHC assessments and eligibility over time
- Plans for the next stage of our research.
- How you can get involved in the Nuffield Trusts work and share your perspectives

Closing the gap: How ICSs can tackle health and care inequalities for people with learning disabilities and autistic people§

The establishment of integrated care systems (ICSs) provides an opportunity for greater collaboration between local health and care partners to improve outcomes for adults, children and young people who have a learning disability, or who are autistic.
This learning summit focused on how ICSs are designing person-centred support where people with learning disability are put at heart of their care and involved in designing solutions that reflect the needs and aspirations of the individual across the life course.

Supported housing and mental health: a core role for ICSs§
Friday 2 February 2024, 11am – 12.30pm
Having a secure and safe place to live is essential to the wellbeing of people living with mental health issues. The right support at the right time can help them to live independently and build a fulfilling life - and it can reduce the need for emergency or acute care.
This learning summit will explore how Integrated Care Boards, can bring together housing, social care, primary, community and hospital care to better support local people living with mental health issues.

Delivering care closer to home: co-designing intermediate care§
Wednesday 25 October 2023, 1.30-3pm
Intermediate care provides a bridge between hospital and home at key points in people’s lives and is built on strong partnerships across health and social care. Following the publication of NHS England’s Intermediate Care Framework, this learning summit explored how NHS, local authorities and adult social care providers are working together to expand and improve access to high quality step-down intermediate care. Includes insights from Croydon and Warwickshire intermediate care frontrunner sites, and the National Care Forum’s blueprint for residential intermediate care.

Workforce planning across Integrated Care Systems: emerging practice§

This Learning Summit explored the emerging models for joint planning across health and social care at local level, including lessons learned. It included presentations from Lincolnshire and Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent ICSs as well as discussions with people with lived experience, Skills for Care and NHS England Workforce Team.
